The event involves the math honor society students providing guidance and engagement in working with the third-grade students in various math-themed activities.
Students had the chance to complete workbook activities and play interactive mathematics games. The event even included a scavenger hunt.
Younger students also got the highly coveted chance to meet the Math-A-Thon superheroes, Octagon and Fraction.
“Watching the Brewster High School students mentor the children is the high point of the school year for me,” said the club’s advisor, Deirdre Holic. “All of their hard work comes together at the Math-A-Thon and it’s a beautiful day.”
In the weeks prior to the event, third-graders were on a mission to reach out to friends and family members to collect donations for St. Jude’s. This year, students raised approximately $4,000.
Since the event’s inception, approximately $48,000 has been raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Brewster High School Mu Alpha Theta members say they're already looking forward to the induction ceremony as well as the planning of next year's Math-A-Thon event.
